When it comes to far-out art, it seemed like New York City had seen it all. That is, until Marni Kotak, a performance artist, announced her latest work: giving birth inside Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn. A very pregnant Kotak stayed at the gallery through most of October, chatting with gallerygoers about art and motherhood. And then on Oct. 26, her exhibit a media sensation, her baby boy Ajax was born; she called him the "highest form of art." Although Kotak plans to turn the entire experience of raising Ajax into an art project, attention has waned. After all, it's not every day you can witness the birth of a child. Watching children be raised in bizarre circumstances, on the other hand, is exactly what reality TV was made for.
