They say there's strength in numbers and, if so, the March for Women's Lives was very strong. Though exact numbers were hard to determine, between 500,000 and 800,000 marched the National Mall in Washington on April 25, 2004, in a rally for women's reproductive rights. Celebrities such as Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg and Kathleen Turner attended the demonstration, which was organized by myriad women's organizations. Specifically targeting the antiabortion policies of then President George W. Bush, activists focused on stopping his re-election that November. However, despite the rally's impressive turnout, the march didn't succeed in preventing Bush from serving a second term.
