Former editor, the News of the World
In 2007 Andy Coulson resigned as editor of the News of the World following the conviction of the paper's former royal editor, Clive Goodman, and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire on phone-hacking charges. That same year, David Cameron, then leader of the Conservative Party, appointed Coulson as the party's director of communications a job Coulson continued to perform after Cameron became Prime Minister in 2010. Coulson quit his position at the start of 2011, claiming that the ongoing hacking scandal was too distracting. He was arrested in July 2011 by officers investigating voice-mail interceptions and illegal payments to police. He was later released on bail.
