Cruel and unusual punishment is an understatement when looking at the daily duties at Camp Green Lake. The warden who runs the place forces the young delinquents to dig holes very specific holes. They have to be 5 ft. wide and 5 ft. deep or else they'll face the wrath of her venomous fingers. Indeed, you don't want to get on the wrong side of a woman who spikes her nail polish with rattlesnake venom. But the effort to build up the campers' characters carries an ulterior motive for this devious warden, who exploits the kids' digging skills in her own secret search for an elusive buried treasure. The warden ends up being so oppressive that campers Stanley and Zero opt to escape, crawling through the boiling desert for days, rather than dig another hole.
