In 1963, Gloria Steinem worked as an undercover bunny for 17 days at Hugh Hefner's New York City Playboy Club for Show magazine. Her resulting exposé revealed that bunnies often waitressed long hours at low wages under humiliating conditions but had few options for a better job because of their lack of education. But the even grimmer reality, Steinem later realized, was that "all women are bunnies," a theme she would go on to explore as a feminist author and activist.
