In 2005, the My Name Is Earl star told Entertainment Weekly that he named his boy after a song on the indie rock band Grandaddy's 2000 album The Sophtware Slump. "The opening track, 'He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot,' absolutely blew my mind when I first heard it. It was from this track that my wife, Beth, came up with the name Pilot for our son." And that, really, is as good a reason as any for a baby's name.
