Heidi Murkoff

The birth of a child is a miracle, and like most miracles, it can be confusing for those going through it. Spurred by the fact that she could not find answers to her own questions, Heidi Murkoff wrote What to Expect When You're Expecting 27 years ago. Since then, lots of pregnancy books have been delivered but none that have spent 10 years on the New York Times best-seller list or given 34 million women around the world the confidence they need for childbirth. Heidi, 52, has a gift for explaining the most complex medical procedures and offering just the right details of each stage of pregnancy. Even though she's not a doctor and not everybody (including me) agrees with every word she's written, the book is a great resource — whether you're having your first child or your 20th.
