William Gibson

Sample tweet: "I get it, now, that Drudge was just someone RTing stuff, but back when nobody else had a Twitter account."

Fans of William Gibson know what to expect from his fiction: noirish, near-future cyberthrillers about awesome new technologies and the globe-trotting spies, artists and geniuses who surreptitiously weave that technology into our lives. But fans of his Twitter feed know that that future is already here: under the handle @greatdismal, Gibson tweets stories about real-life teenage hackers, automatic tattoo machines and the Dutch aviation buff who's tracking secret U.S. air raids on Libya from his basement. Since the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan on March 11, Gibson has also been one of the most prolific retweeters of news from the country, and has been a strident voice of criticism over the Western media's "hysterical" response to the threat of radiation spreading overseas from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
