Already a success in the world of academia, Amy Chua shot to a new level of fame when her book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother set off a tempest of parental anxiety in January 2011. In the book, Chua recounts how she raised her two daughters in an environment that placed emphasis on hard work, practice and classical music and eschewed more-permissive Western parenting techniques like allowing play dates.
