McG

You can see where Joseph McGinty Nichol got his jaunty nickname — his work is as sunny as his Californian upbringing. He was the go-to guy if you were a mid-'90s rock act and needed a colorful sheen put on your records, as Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth and the Offspring could happily testify. Another fan of his oeuvre was Drew Barrymore, who approached McG to take on the task of directing her, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in the 2000 reboot of Charlie's Angels. It was a huge hit, and three years later he took charge of the inevitable sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (which was as bad as the title indicated). For better or worse, McG is considered a bankable director, and he did turn a profit on the recent Terminator Salvation. He's also cannier than he looks, with significant interests in television — his production company is involved with shows such as The O.C., Supernatural and Chuck.
