Connecticut Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon capitalized on Richard Blumenthal's biggest blunder in this brutal spot questioning the Democrat's honesty. The ad strings together video clips of Blumenthal overstating his military record — for which the candidate had apologized — painting him as a typical say-anything politician who doesn't keep his word. "If he lied about Vietnam," the narrator asks, "what else is lying about?" While the spot effectively called Blumenthal's character into question by showcasing how Blumenthal had previously given the impression he had actually served in Vietnam, it wasn't enough to discredit him completely or paper over McMahon's own controversial past as CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment. The Dem bested McMahon by more than 10 points on Election Day.
