A Democratic Death Wish?

There were times during the 2010 cycle that some Democrats from conservative districts seemed locked in a game of one-upmanship to see how far they could try to distance themselves from the party leadership in Washington. Alabama Representative Bobby Bright took things to a new level during an Aug. 25 rally in Montgomery. When asked whether he would vote for Nancy Pelosi for House Speaker, Bright listed a number of reasons such a vote might not ever come up, including the hypothetical that Pelosi "might even get sick and die." The off-color remark was quickly amplified in the media echo chamber, but Bright insisted he wished Pelosi no ill will. "It was simply a list of things that could happen."
