Condemning The Twilight Saga: New Moon

The Vatican seems to have a lot of important things to pronounce upon: allegations of clerical sexual abuse, the Holocaust, aliens — and Twilight. Days before The Twilight Saga: New Moon opened in theaters in November 2009, Monsignor Franco Perazzolo of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Culture, released a statement that condemned the film, saying it contained "an explosive mix" of good-looking protagonists who dabbled in the supernatural. "This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such, is something that should be of concern," the statement said. Clearly, fans did not heed the warning. The vampire-romance film took in more than $700 million worldwide.
