"Malcolm X"

Running $4 million over budget, director Spike Lee puts the finishing touches on "Malcolm X," his epic film starring Denzel Washington. After having battled first for the chance to direct the picture, then for a budget, then for creative control, Lee remains "determined not to make compromises" and pitched in much of his salary to complete the project.
