A delicate and erotic masterpiece of filmmaking, "Henry & June," is slapped with a fatal X rating, despite director Philip Kaufman's discreet treatment of the love scenes. Kaufman appeals but probably has only two choices: "cut the film to the censors' pattern or take his movie to an independent distributor."
