West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin tapped Goodwin, his 36-year-old former lawyer, as a placeholder after Robert Byrd died. Goodwin is the first U.S. Senator born after 1970; he is sure to resurface in politics after his term expires.

I would be practicing law.

Where do you see yourself professionally in five years?
Part of me will always be drawn to public service. Though I am not sure where my path will take me, I know I will always feel connected to serving the public.
