They might seem dorky, but that didn't stopped them from going viral upon their introduction in 2000. The defining feature of the technology is the exchange of data over short distances. The Bluetooth name was adopted in 1998 after Danish King Haralt Blatand (Bluetooth, in English), who united the warring tribes of his region. As Harald united his people, so your Bluetooth will unite your devices — or something like that.
