Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, Preity Zinta
On the eve of India's 50th anniversary, journalist Amar (Khan) is on his way to interview a terrorist leader for an assignment when he meets the mysterious Meghna (Koirala) while waiting for a train. She is, of course, a terrorist herself, with a mission to assassinate the prime minister, and disappears before Amar can profess his love for her. He agrees to marry, instead, the bubbly Preeti (Zinta) just in time for Meghna to show up at his door. Dil Se is probably best known for the A.R. Rahman-penned hit "Chaiyya Chaiyya" performed on the roof and flatbeds of a moving train during which you hope the hip-gyrating dancers don't fall off. Interestingly, Dil Se was a flop in India but a huge success overseas, becoming the first Indian film to become a top 10 hit at the U.K. box office.
