Eighties British pop star Boy George was convicted in late 2008 of falsely imprisoning a male escort. His accuser, Audun Carlsen, a Norwegian model, said the singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, handcuffed him to a wall and beat him with a metal chain after they participated in a naked photo session. During the trial, the prosecutor, alluding to O'Dowd's 1982 No. 1 hit with the band Culture Club, asked the jury, "Did he really have to hurt him?" The London jury sided with Carlsen and the former front man was sentenced to 15 months behind bars, but was released after four months on good behavior.
