The Rent is Too Damn High
New Yorkers and the Internet in general found a viral favorite in Jimmy McMillan, a Brooklynite running for governor under the banner of the Rent Is Too Damn High party. He stole the show during a gubernatorial debate Monday night, spouting with unmatched passion his catchphrases about, well, how the rent is too damn high. Plus, the Vietnam veteran's facial hair is reminiscent of the Civil War's General Ambrose Burnside, the original namesake for sideburns. What's best about him, though, is that his rent isn't actually that damn high. His apartment costs $800 a month, which isn't bad for New York City's gentrifying borough, and he gets to live there for free in exchange for maintaining the building.
