Betty Friedan

If American women look at their lives today, they are seeing Betty Friedan's legacy in action. Her critique of "the problem that has no name" awakened a generation of women to the notion that there must be more to life than domesticity. Friedan's imprint — individualistic, aspirational, plainspoken — has so informed our discourse on equality that it is impossible to separate her voice and vision from the movement she set in motion.
