It was Ed Bradley's signature moment: wading into the ocean to help an exhausted Vietnamese refugee make her way to shore. That simple, human act from 1979 stands so well for the career of one of the greats, because it spoke to both the reporter and the man.
Ed, as much as anyone I have ever met, had a real sense of just who he was. That is no small thing, especially in television. And those lucky enough to be around him always knew who he was too a gentleman of extraordinary character, a straight shooter and a pioneering journalist destined to be remembered.
We'll miss the reporter, and the man.
