Elif Batuman

Author of The Possessed suggests:
With one thing and another, I actually hadn't been to the beach in ages until last month, when I was in Tel Aviv to report about a Kafka-papers controversy. On my first afternoon off, I was trying to read Kafka, but it turns out that Kafka is not great beach reading. Then the Kindle Web page had the brilliant idea that I should switch to Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore. It was so right! The book isn't so much about Kafka, but it went perfectly with the shore.
