Does your stomach churn when you consider dining next to the dead? That doesn't seem to be a problem for the patrons at New Lucky Restaurant. Nearly 60 years ago, New Lucky started off as a small tea stall next to an old Muslim graveyard in Ahmadabad, India. Business boomed, and then-owner K.H. Mohammed expanded the walls of his stand to include the prime real estate next door — along with a dozen or so of its graves.
In this bustling café, waiters navigate a field of shiny green coffins to serve customers New Lucky's famous buttery rolls and milky tea. Krishan Kutti Nair, who helped Mohammed build and run the restaurant, believes the cemetery is good luck. "Our business is better because of the graveyard," he told the Associated Press. It certainly wasn't the kiss of death for this restaurant.
