The Redwoods
The trees at the Redwood National and State Parks in Oregon and on the north coast of California are the tallest ones on the planet. Many of them stand more than 30 stories high. Up until 2006, the 370-ft. (112.8 m) Stratosphere Giant held the title for tallest tree on earth, but three others — the Hyperion at 378.1 ft. (115.2 m), Helios at 376.3 ft. (114.6 m) and Icarus at 371.2 ft. (113.1 m) — superseded it when they were discovered in Eureka, Calif. There are several redwoods that are best known for the (man-made) car-size holes in their trunks that allow camera-ready tourists to drive through — for a fee, of course.
