A sign of things to come? When word got out in 2007 that John Edwards had used campaign contributions to pay for two $400 trims at a salon off Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Calif., his public image was lambasted. A YouTube video of him primping pre-interview, set to the tune of "I Feel Pretty," went viral; as Julie Andrews sings, "It's alarming how charming I feel," Edwards closes his eyes to have his locks sprayed by an assistant.
He later tried to poke fun at himself, saying at a rally, "Everybody's supposed to have a chance in the United States of America. Why do we think people want to come here? ... They want to come here because people like me can come from nowhere, the son of a mill worker ... and now be running for the President of the United States and pay $400 for a haircut."
