As portrayed by Gene Wilder in the 1968 Mel Brooks original, then by Matthew Broderick in the 2005 remake, Leo Bloom is a mild-mannered accountant with dreams of becoming a high-powered Broadway producer. Yet he hides behind strange compulsions like a childlike obsession with a blue blanket to avoid any social or professional conflict. But when he begrudgingly goes along with Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel, and later Nathan Lane) in a scheme to create the worst play ever, he slowly grows a pair.
