Intersecting Runways
All but two of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport's runways intersect. Such a design can increase the chances of a collision, especially during bad weather and high winds. Luckily, that shouldn't be a problem for the city known for its warm weather and lack of wind. Right? Proposed redevelopment plans, which involve pushing out residents of Bensenville, an adjacent suburb, and adding runways on the annexed land, are designed to alleviate some of the collision concerns at the airport, the second busiest hub in the world.
