Scott Hamilton and Scott Cramer
In his 2008 book The Great Eight, gold-medal figure skater Scott Hamilton said it plain: "Scott Cramer was by far my biggest rival." His fellow American ice skater was able to compete in the 1979 World Championships while Hamilton sat it out at home. The two Scotts had a history of struggling to outdo one another with intense jumps and flips and fighting for the best rankings in the U.S. before they went professional. Then Hamilton's world famous coach, Carlo Fassi — who had trained the likes of Dorothy Hamill and John Curry — decided to train Cramer as well. Hamilton writes that he felt "betrayed and disappointed." Which, of course, didn't stop him from getting a new coach, winning four consecutive U.S. and world championship titles and the gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
