The Unlucky Artist
British artist Tracey Emin has had her share of accidents. In Edinburgh's Gallery of Modern Art, her Self Portrait: Bath — a neon light tangled in barbed wire — sustained almost $2,000 worth of damage when the barbs snagged a visitor's clothing. Another piece, Feeling Pregnant III, was damaged at the same gallery when a visitor backed into the stand. At the National Galleries of Scotland, Emin's My Uncle Colin was damaged by the staff. The piece was later repaired. The Turner Prize nominee's bad luck continued in May 2004 when a warehouse fire destroyed many of her works, including her infamous embroidered tent, Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-95.
