Disappear Off Cambodia's South Coast
If you can see only one thing in Cambodia, you should probably see the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat. But if you can see two, head to the country's drowsy southern coast, where little towns like Kep, Kampot and Sihanoukville are becoming fixtures on the "happy pizza" party maps of backpackers in Southeast Asia. Thankfully, they're not too overrun — you can tune backpackers out and simply enjoy the infrastructure they've inspired. Take a bus from the capital city of Phnom Penh to Kep, a seaside getaway during French colonial rule, where the unkempt skeletons of graceful old manses hide along wide, potholed avenues. From there, stop by the river town of Kampot before carrying on to the local sin city, Sihanoukville. If the strip joints and sarongs get old, catch a boat to one of the dozens of remote outlying islands off the coast, where you can easily spend a day or a week pretending the rest of the world doesn't even exist.
