Famed for his dreamy dramas with Marlene Dietrich, Sternberg made his rep as a supreme visual stylist with these pretalkies: The Last Command (an Oscar for star Emil Jannings), the gangster epic Underworld and the romance The Docks of New York. All are true classics.
