Mary Stuart

London's Donmar Warehouse, which seems capable of doing no wrong when it comes to reviving classics, had another winner last spring with its version of Schiller's little-performed 1800 play about the battle between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots. Janet McTeer, as the unjustly imprisoned Mary, was the standout in a flawless cast, but the real revelation was how modern and nuanced this two-century-old political drama proved to be.
