Checking for ID Online

Mary Ellen Hause, a part-time teacher's aide from Clearcreek Township, Ohio, tried too hard to be a cool mom. In February she was busted for allowing three cheerleaders (who were also students at the school where she worked) to drink in her basement with her teenage son. Pictures of the incident had made their way to Facebook and were discovered by the school's resource officer, Sergeant Don Wilson, who regularly poked around students' accounts. Hause was sentenced to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, 10 days of trash pickup and three years of probation that prohibits her from drinking alcohol or having it in her house.

In another case of incriminating evidence of underage drinking, students at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse were busted in November after being friended by what one young man called a "good-looking" 19-year-old girl, who turned out to be a police officer searching for pictures of illegal drinking on Facebook. At least four students were fined in the operation that one busted pupil called "a waste of taxpayer money."
