Yet again, Democrats could become victims of their past electoral success. When Colorado Senator Ken Salazar was appointed Interior Secretary, the Colorado Senate seat did not look like much of a risk. But polling, and tough opponents, have since raised doubts about whether Salazar's appointed replacement, Michael Bennet, a former school superintendent, can hold on to the job. Hypothetical matchups show Bennet losing by a margin of 36% to 45% to former lieut. governor Jane Norton, a Republican. Bennet also faces a primary challenge from former state house speaker Andrew Romanoff.
