Obama, like Bush before him, shies away from Washington battles on issues like gay rights and abortion. But the Democrat's election has led to numerous victories for liberals, from the nomination of moderate judges to the recent new hate-crimes law. Bush's conservative legacy in these areas has not been wholly undone, but Obama has made significant progress in a short period of time.
