Mary Stuart

This infrequently produced Friedrich Schiller play from 1800, about the battle between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots, looks stunningly modern in the season's second best import from London. Its most deserving Tony nominees — co-stars Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter — are, alas, competing against each other, and I wouldn't be surprised by a complete shutout on Sunday. But there are no more stimulating 2½ hours on Broadway.
