Governors Whining and Dining

Day 34
Feb. 22, 2009

"This is where the magic happens."

First Lady Michelle Obama, telling students from Maryland's L'Academie de Cuisine about the White House kitchen as they gather to help prepare a meal ahead of the big dinner with governors at the White House

The red carpet is rolled out at the White House as the nation's governors arrive for the new Administration's first formal dinner. Attendees dine on Chesapeake crab agnolottis, wagyu beef and Nantucket scallops while enjoying music by Earth, Wind & Fire.

Earlier in the day, the GOP's internal debate over the stimulus goes on full display, with Republicans sparring on the Sunday TV shows. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Florida Governor Charlie Crist stand up for the plan while South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford says, "We're digging yet another hole for ourselves," and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal insists that Republicans shouldn't be afraid to stand up on principle.
