There's a fragrance of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday about Carey Mulligan's radiant breakout turn as a bright 16-year-old whose dreams of Oxford are clouded when she meets an older man (Peter Sarsgaard). The film's a winner too: it beguiles you with wit, then kicks you in the heart.
