The Human Condition
It's not easy to make a film that embraces the horror and heroism of this title, but Masaki Kobayashi's nearly 10-hour war epic about one decent Japanese soldier in occupied Manchuria does just that. Words can hardly do justice to this accomplishment but start with magnificent.
