The Little Stranger
A family in decline. A crumbling old English estate. Things that go bump in the night. It sounds like a ghost story out of the recycled-plot bin, but Sarah Waters (Tipping the Velvet, The Night Watch) creates an atmosphere of quiet dread that's unnerving and compelling.
