Acid Tongue

It's an appropriately retro way to sample an album that sounds like it came out of the 70s — the Joni Mitchell sing-your-heart-out '70s, not the baw-chicka-baw '70s. Recorded in three weeks with the aid of Zooey Deschanel, Jonathan Rice, Chris Robinson and Elvis Costello (autumn's dueter-in-chief) Acid Tongue is more relaxed than Lewis' work with Rilo Kiley, perhaps because there's no one to fight about breaking up with. As usual, her specialty is in the creation of little bits dramas that resolve, or at least end, after a few sweetly sung minutes. It'll take you back, while taking her forward.
