It was only a matter of time before someone produced a sculpture of Angelina Jolie naked. But naked and nursing? And how about a naked Jolie nursing twins? In 2009, sculptor Daniel Edwards took it upon himself to depict Jolie seated while feeding twin infants simultaneously for an odd-looking work entitled Landmark for Breastfeeding. The New Yorkbased artist favors celebrity subjects, including a much publicized sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth nude, which he described as "pro-life." Edwards chose a gallery in Norman, Okla., not far from Brad Pitt's birthplace, to unveil the statue. Local art dealer Cory Allen said at the time that he was in discussions with officials in Oklahoma City and Edmond, Okla., about displaying the work in a public park. No word yet on whether either city has accepted the donation.
Edwards says the sculpture was originally inspired by W magazine's 2008 cover of Jolie nursing one of her newborn twins, Vivienne and Knox. And while that image of Jolie was widely welcomed by breast-feeding advocates, it's not entirely clear whether the grim-looking Jolie statue would inspire an increase in nursing.
