Daniel Rooney, son of Irish immigrant and Steelers team founder Art Rooney, has been working with the Pittsburgh football team since 1960. He became team president in 1975 and team owner in 1988, after his father died. Now Rooney is chairman emeritus of the Pittsburgh Steelers because he has another, arguably more important job: U.S. Ambassador to Ireland. President Obama nominated the lifelong Republican in 2009.
