Author and conservationist William H. Whyte takes a "refreshing, optimistic and constructive" look at American land use in his book "The Last Landscape." Having seen his home county in Pennsylvania's lovely Brandywine Valley gobbled up by real estate development, Whyte suggests a positive middle ground. The future he says, lies in controlled growth.
