Steve Jobs introduced the iPod in 2001 (with 5- and 10-GB capacities), but it wasn't until 2004, when the fourth-generation Classic iPod, with a color screen and click wheel, was released, that the masses really started to take notice. Suddenly those telltale white earbuds were no longer a status symbol they were ubiquitous. Since 2001, there have been five different models and 21 generations, but it was the first color iPod that forever changed the way the world listens to music. To date, Apple has sold more than 275 million iPods.
