California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina's Web video starts out innocently enough: sheep graze in a serene lea as the narrator whispers words like "purity" and "wholesome" in a smooth, sultry voice. But these gentle creatures, purportedly representing "fiscal conservatives," are in for a surprise. There is one among them who, depending on which part of the video you're watching, is actually a pig, a sheep again, a wolf in sheep's clothing or a man with glowing red eyes and a tacky sheep costume. All this is supposed to tell you that Fiorina's now defeated primary foe Tom Campbell is a Fiscal Conservative in Name Only. Confused? Don't be. This bizarrely brilliant, three-minute metaphorical mishmash went viral, drawing hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube and write-ups from major news outlets. As free attention for campaigns go, that ain't baaaaaad.
