On an otherwise quiet Thursday afternoon, Palin calls an impromptu press conference in her backyard, where she announces her resignation as governor, effective at the end of the month. She cites her lame-duck status, growing legal fees and a distaste for "politics as usual" as the main reasons for her departure. Drawing on a "comfortable analogy," Palin, who was known as "Sarah Barracuda" during her high school basketball-playing days, compares herself to a good point guard driving through a full-court press, keeping her eye on the basket and knowing when to pass.
