"Goodbye, Farewell and Amen," the final episode of M*A*S*H aired on Feb. 28, 1983 and remained the most watched program in television history for 27 years (it was finally unseated by the 2010 Super Bowl). Co-written and directed by M*A*S*H star Alan Alda, the episode covers the Korean War cease-fire, the dismantling of the 4077 MASH unit, and dispersion of the show's characters as they travel home from war. Alda's character, Hawkeye Pierce, has a mental breakdown; his best friend B.J. Hunnicutt gets sent home; and Col. Klinger, who has spent the entire series trying to convince his superiors that he's insane so he can leave, decides to stay in Korea indefinitely.
