The U.K.'s Bucks Fizz with "Making Your Mind Up" (1981)
On deciding whether to commit to a serious relationship, British band Bucks Fizz advised that "You gotta speed it up/ And then you gotta slow it down/ Cos if you believe that a love can hit the top/ you gotta play around." Apparently that involves growing shaggy blond hair, wearing block colors and ripping off your skirt during any musical performance. Tame and mild by today's standards, the act stirred contemporary audiences with its frivolity and choreographed hip-shaking, and the song went on to top the charts in nine countries.
